Over the course of any given week, we field a lot of questions here at the Integrity Plus Floors flooring store, and we've noticed a few questions that keep popping up over and over again. So, we thought it would be a good idea to lay some of these questions to rest ahead of time, by answering them here on our flooring store blog.
Here are the three most common questions our flooring store receives and the answers to each:
1. Is Hardwood Flooring Recommended for Basement Applications?
While there are some circumstances where it would be OK to install wood flooring in your basement, it is generally understood that doing so is a risky proposition at best. Your basement is below grade and, thus, susceptible to intrusion from moisture and humidity, which can really do a number on wood floors.
Moisture, humidity, and the risk of plumbing leaks or disasters, are all factors that could potentially destroy your wood flooring, and necessitate a total reinstallation of your basement flooring.
If you really have your heart set on having the look of wood in your basement, you might want to consider a safer alternative, such as luxury vinyl tile or waterproof core flooring.
2. Do I Really Need the Carpet Padding?
This is one of the most common questions we get here in our flooring store. We get it, flooring is a huge investment, and many customers need to save every penny that they can. However, really, you definitely want to pay the extra for the padding.
The padding for your carpet offers a number of benefits. It is the armor that protects your carpeting from the punishment of foot traffic, and the major reason a carpeted floor is actually comfortable.
You can definitely install a carpet without padding, but your floor will be cold, hard, uncomfortable, and have a drastically shortened service life. Ignore it at your own peril!
3. Can Luxury Vinyl Tile Be Installed as a DIY Project?
Yes! In fact, one of the most attractive features of luxury vinyl tile (LVT) is the fact that is easily installed by laymen, with even the barest modicum of DIY experience.
LVT tiles come with clear instructions on how to install them, and with a little supplemental help from Google for tips, this job can easily be completed by just about anyone. It's a great way to save money on your flooring remodel by cutting out the cost of installation labor entirely!
